TASC Update March 2026

The Training and Accreditation Standards Committee (TASC) is pleased to share our latest update. In this briefing, we clarify the UKCP’s Mental Health Familiarisation Guidance, invite expressions of interest from members who may wish to join the Committee and say goodbye to a valued member of our Committee.

Clarification regarding UKCP’s new Mental Health Familiarisation guidance

In our January 2026 update, we let you all know that UKCP HIPC (the Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College) had updated their guidance on the Mental Health Familiarisation (MHF) requirements. This updated guidance is on the UKATA website https://www.ukata.org/ukata-ta-training-handbook at 10.1B.

We’ve been asked to give some further clarification on this. There are two documents produced by UKCP regarding MHF: one general one by UKCP, and one more specific one from HIPC, which is the college of UKCP that UKATA is a member of. It is the HIPC document that has been recently updated.

The updated document broadens the scope of what can be done by a student to aid their familiarisation with mental health. As such, any student who has been using the previous MHF document to manage their studies will not be prejudiced by the new document coming out.

Call for new Committee members

The work of UKATA’s Training and Accreditation Standards Committee relies on members who are willing to contribute their time, care and professional judgement in service of the wider TA community. We are currently seeking new TASC Committee members and are inviting expressions of interest.

If you would like to apply, please send a CV and brief cover note to office@ukata.org by 1 April 2026. For an informal conversation, contact the Chair, Beren Aldridge, at tasc@ukata.org.

We are particularly keen to hear from experienced trainers and supervisors, and from members from minoritised and under-represented communities.

Recognising Service to the UKATA Community

We would like to take a moment to thank Bev Gibbons, who is stepping down from her role on the Training and Accreditation Standards Committee.

Bev has made a valued contribution to the work of the Committee through the time, insight and commitment she has given. We are pleased that she will continue to be involved with UKATA as our EATA representative and as a key part of the UKATA medals ceremony.

We extend our sincere thanks to Bev for her dedication and support of the UKATA community.
