Physis Scotland: Growing Transactional Analysis in the Heart of Scotland

Physis Scotland sponsored our recent conference, playing a key role in making the event a success — and as part of their package, they received an exclusive feature on our news page.

In an increasingly complex and fast-paced world, the need for deeper human understanding—of ourselves, our relationships, and our organisations—has never been greater. Transactional Analysis (TA) continues to offer a powerful, accessible framework for meeting that need. Here in Scotland, Physis Scotland stands as a vibrant, growing hub dedicated to advancing TA practice, learning, and community.

At Physis Scotland, our name reflects our purpose. Physis, derived fro m the Greek, speaks to natural growth, development, and the unfolding of human potential. These principles are at the core of both TA and our work as an institute.

We are committed to creating a learning environment where individuals—whether practitioners, trainees, or those simply curious—can explore TA in a way that is rigorous, relational, and deeply human. Our programmes are grounded in the rich theoretical heritage of TA while remaining responsive to the contemporary contexts in which our members live and work.

Physis Scotland is proud to be the only Transactional Analysis institute in Scotland.

This unique position brings both responsibility and opportunity. We serve as a focal point for TA training, development, and professional connection across the country, welcoming people from diverse professional backgrounds including psychotherapy, counselling, education, coaching, and organisational development.

Our aim is not merely to deliver training, but to nurture a thriving TA community within Scotland—one that supports excellence, encourages dialogue, and fosters ongoing professional and personal growth.

Our offerings are designed to meet people wherever they are in their TA journey. From foundational courses to advanced training pathways, we provide opportunities that are:

  • Experiential and relational, reflecting the core values of TA

  • Professionally robust, supporting those working toward accreditation

  • Flexible and relevant, addressing the realities of modern practice

We believe that learning TA is not only an intellectual pursuit but a transformative experience. Through supervision, peer learning, and reflective practice, our students develop both competence and confidence in applying TA meaningfully.

One of the defining strengths of Physis Scotland is the sense of community we cultivate. TA is, at its heart, a relational discipline, and we strive to embody that ethos in everything we do. Our members often speak of the warmth, encouragement, and collegiality they experience within our programmes and events.

We actively promote:

  • Inclusivity and diversity, welcoming people from all walks of life

  • Collaboration and mutual support, both within and beyond our institute

  • Ethical practice, aligned with international TA standards

Through workshops, events, and informal gatherings, we create spaces where meaningful connections can flourish.

TA has always been a practical theory—one that translates insight into action. At Physis Scotland, we support our members to apply TA across a wide range of settings: therapy rooms, classrooms, boardrooms, and communities and are actively seeking to offer the whole suite of fields in the future eventually.

We are particularly passionate about exploring how TA can contribute to contemporary challenges, including mental health, organisational culture, leadership development, and social change. By doing so, we aim to ensure that TA remains both relevant and impactful in today’s world.

As we continue to grow, our vision is to strengthen the presence and influence of TA in Scotland while remaining firmly connected to the wider international TA movement. We are excited about the partnerships we are building, the new learners joining us, and the evolving conversations shaping our field.

Being the only TA institute in Scotland positions us uniquely—but we see ourselves not as isolated, rather as deeply interconnected with a global community of practitioners and thinkers.

Finally, we want to acknowledge that Physis Scotland does not exist in isolation. We are part of a rich and generous wider TA community—one that spans countries, cultures, and disciplines.

To our colleagues, trainers, supervisors, and organisations across the UK and in the wider TA world, thank you for your collaboration, inspiration, and ongoing commitment to this work. Together, we continue to grow, learn, and bring the transformative power of Transactional Analysis to those who need it most.
