Changes to the CTA Process

The Exam Committee would like to announce two important changes to the CTA process, along with corresponding updates to the handbook.
The first change relates to UKATA’s CTA written exam Section D and will take effect from 1st September 2026. After careful consideration and feedback from members, the Exam Committee has decided to restore Section D so that it aligns with the EATA handbook.
For a number of years, candidates completing their CTA through UKATA have been asked to answer slightly different questions from those outlined in the EATA handbook. These questions were originally amended in an attempt to help UKATA candidates meet the Level 7 requirements set out by UKCP. However, following discussions with our external examiner and feedback from members, it has become clear that the differences in wording have not had the intended effect of supporting candidates and, in some cases, have led to confusion.
To support this transition, candidates submitting their written exam over the next 18 months may choose which set of Section D questions they wish to answer. For exams submitted from March 2028 onwards, only submissions that use the Section D questions contained in the updated handbook will be accepted.
The second change relates to the deadline for written exam submissions. EATA recently extended the submission deadline from six months to nine months prior to the oral examination. This means that candidates wishing to sit a particular oral examination would need to have submitted their written exam nine months in advance.
UKATA has agreed with EATA that, for UKATA members wishing to take their oral examination in the UK, the previous six-month deadline can be maintained. This change takes immediate effect. Therefore, for candidates wishing to sit their oral examination at the UKATA National Conference in April 2027, the deadline for submitting the written exam will be October 2026.
We are in the process of updating the relevant documents in the UKATA Training Handbook on the UKATA website.
