This workshop aims to help you feel more confident counselling Vision Impaired clients, and will also be relevant to working with disabled clients generally. It offers an opportunity to explore the impact of disablism, both within the therapy space and wider society, as well as an invitation to stand back and reflect differently on your familiar communication style and the techniques and interventions you use in your practice.  Gemma will introduce some of the key issues we need to account for as therapists working with vision impaired and disabled clients.

We will cover:

  • The social model of disability and implications of psycho-emotional disablism. Ensuring your service is accessible to disabled clients, including your obligations under the Equality Act.

  • A whistlestop tour of some TA theory as it applies to sight loss.
