About the event

Embracing the Political, Social and Cultural Contexts of Eating and the Body

Nourish | Workshop 04

Friday 12 March 2027 · 10.00am–1.00pm | £65 individual workshop price

Run by eating and weight specialist Mandy Atkinson, TSTA-(P), psychotherapist, teacher and supervisor.

Eating and body concerns do not arise in isolation. This workshop considers how family, culture, social expectations, stigma and wider society can shape a person's relationship with food, body and weight. It offers practitioners a space to reflect on the assumptions that can surround shape, size, gender and eating disorders, and on how contemporary social media and technology may influence the client's psyche and also the therapeutic relationship.

  • Explore how social expectations, family and cultural messages, stigma and technology can impact a client's relationship with food and body.
